Challenge 1

Ensure students with disabilities access to the full range of General Education’s Curricular Options and Learning Experiences with transition service provision greater access to general education curriculum and assessment systems.

  • since general education curriculum assesses students academically, pwd has given limited or no attention
  • possibility of narrowing of curriculum and instruction for focus on content and concentrate on areas of weaknesses
  • thus effort should be taken to ensure that students with disabilities should stay in full curriculum
  • IEP team should see to it that high expectations are maintained to meet vocational education, service learning, community work experience and adult living skills

Strategies:

  • Promote high expectations for student achievements and learning (IEP)
  • Making appropriate use of assessment and instructional accommodation
  • Ensure that students have access to the full access to general education curriculum - inclusion
