Challenge 3


Ensure students to access a full participation in postsecondary education, employment and independent living opportunities.

Based on research, young adults with disabilities face difficulty in

  • securing a job
  • access to post secondary education and
  • living independently
  • fully participating in the community

Intervention:

Include in the secondary education preparation and opportunities to

  • understand themselves
  • understand their disability in relation to needed services and support
  • focus on advocating for their needs in different post school education (employment setting)

Strategies:

  • Develop effective models of assistance and support that are personally responsive, flexible, and individualized
  • Coordinate and manage post secondary education supports and services agencies

  • Ensure that the education and training students acquire in the secondary level is transferable to post educational plans and eventually employment.
  • Community service agency accommodate young adults with disabilities
  • Promote collaborative employer commitment
  • Establish partnership with placement agencies
