Daily Living Skills

Topic: Dress Appropriately

Goal: The students will learn how to dress appropriately.

Students: Grade 12 (Students with mild autism and down syndrome)

Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1.) Identify/Choose proper attire for a particular occasion;
2.) Demonstrate appropriate dressing for an occasion.

Teaching Aids:
1.) Pictures of Different Kinds of Clothes
2.) Videos Clips of occasions like wedding, baptism, party, birthday, etc.

Materials: 1.) Different Clothes (The students will come to class wearing the
clothes/dress that they were assigned to wear)
2.) Proper Attire Worksheet

SCHOOL ACTIVITY

Lesson: Tasks:
1. The students come to class wearing the clothes/dress they were previously assigned to wear. The teacher asks each student to share to the class for which occasion will the clothes they are wearing be properly worn.
2. The teacher asks the students to share to the class an experience of one occasion they have attended and they will describe the clothes that were worn by the people who also attended the occasion.
3. The teacher shows some pictures of different clothes/dress worn by people.
4. The pictures are numbered and then the teacher asks the students to accomplish the Proper Attire Worksheet by identifying which attire can be worn in a particular occasion as listed in the worksheet.
5. The teacher discusses the students’ responses in the worksheet.
6. The teacher lets the students view some video clips of different occasions and asks the students to observe the attire/dress of people who attended the occasions.
7. The students are also asked to observe from the video if there are people who were not dressed properly for the occasion.
8. The students are asked what they feel about being properly dressed for an occasion and similarly what they would feel when they are not properly dressed for the occasion they are attending.

OFF-CAMPUS ACTIVITY
The teacher and the students attend a Fashion Show featuring clothes worn on weddings, parties and other occasions.
Evaluation: The students will describe the clothes/dress to be appropriately worn on different occasions.
