Contribution of the Study to Research
More than a thousand pages of online sites for researches, blogs, articles and news that had discussed significant aspects of Nursery Rhymes in the lives of children and adults, only one emerged to touch a little about the other skills that may be developed in early literacy other than language acquisition.
This paper intends to give light to the use of Nursery Rhymes as a Teaching tool for skills other than language. A series of lesson plans will be created as guide to parents, teachers and para-educators on how they could use the old-fashioned teaching tool to train early learners acquire cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural and motor skills.
There have been thousands of lessons plans on language acquisition. A number have inclined a little into the concept of discussion of thoughts in the rhymes and music giving opportunity for children to exercise the simplest logic. However, there is none that had genuinely discussed and advocated this same teaching tool and teach social skills like making friends, saying sorry or personal space etc.
